Group I certification underground
Coal mining requires Group I equipment with EPL Mb, a different certification route from surface Group II machines. The two are not interchangeable.
Abrasive dust and washdown
IP65 and IP66 enclosures with drain arrangements, because the machine will be pressure-washed with the same water that carries the dust.
High-inertia starting
Crushers, mills and long conveyors start against inertia that a standard cage motor cannot accelerate on a weak underground supply.
Access for replacement
A machine that cannot be brought down the shaft in one piece is not a candidate, whatever its rating.
