Hydro and Wind Machines
Vertical and horizontal hydro generators and wind-turbine generators, engineered against the hydrological or wind data of the individual site.
- Apparent power
- 100 – 12 000 kVA
- Voltage
- 400 – 10 500 V
- Speed
- 75 – 1 000 rpm
- Head (hydro)
- 2 – 400 m
- Prime mover
- Kaplan / Francis / Pelton / wind
- Construction
- Vertical or horizontal
These machines are not selected from a catalogue. The generator follows the turbine, and the turbine follows the site's head and flow duration curve — or, for wind, the rotor diameter and the class of the location.
Electromash supplies generators for small and micro hydro from about 100 kW up to several megawatts, in vertical Kaplan and horizontal Francis or Pelton arrangements.
For refurbishment projects the more common request is a replacement generator for an existing turbine, where the constraint is the existing foundation, shaft height and coupling.
Key characteristics
Engineered against site data
Runaway speed, thrust load and flywheel effect calculated from the specific turbine, not assumed from a class.
Retrofit into existing civil works
Foundation bolt pattern, shaft height and coupling can be held to the original machine.
Thrust bearing dimensioned for runaway
The bearing is rated for the runaway condition of the matched turbine, including the vertical hydraulic thrust.
Grid-code capable excitation
Excitation and AVR specified against the connection agreement of the receiving network.
Construction
- Vertical umbrella or suspended construction for Kaplan sets
- Combined thrust and guide bearing with oil-bath lubrication
- Salient-pole rotor with full damper winding
- Braking and jacking system for shutdown and start
- Air cooler with leak-detection tray
Available configurations
- Vertical (Kaplan) or horizontal (Francis, Pelton, cross-flow)
- Direct-coupled or via speed increaser
- Speed range for runaway up to 2.2 × rated
- Wind-turbine generators, geared or direct-drive
- Retrofit build to existing foundation
Monitoring options
- Thrust and guide bearing temperature and oil level
- Shaft vibration and axial displacement
- Air-cooler differential temperature
- Speed and overspeed protection channels
2 series, 6 models
A series shares one design; the variants below differ by frame size and rating. This table is generated from the series definition — the variant list is never maintained by hand.
VGS — vertical hydro generator series
Vertical umbrella-construction hydro generators for Kaplan turbine sets, with combined thrust and guide bearing.
Offered against: SV · VGS-legacy — replacement finder
HGS — horizontal hydro generator series
Horizontal hydro generators for Francis, Pelton and cross-flow sets, direct-coupled or via speed increaser.
