The original drawings were incomplete and the plant had been modified twice. Runaway speed had to be re-established from the current turbine configuration rather than from the historic documentation.
A survey of the existing machines and turbine set established the actual geometry and runaway condition. New generators were designed to the surveyed dimensions, with a combined thrust and guide bearing rated for the measured runaway speed.
Both units were installed without modification to the powerhouse. Annual generation increased by an estimated 6 % from improved efficiency at part load, where the plant spends most of its year.
